Five Card Draw Poker Strategy

Five card draw is an excellent pkr poker variation and has been becoming more popular throughout many of the online poker rooms. Often you’ll find a lot of new players at the online tables playing this game, especially when you’re playing on low limit tables. If you can execute some simple strategies then you should be able to win money every session you play unless of course you encounter a bad beat in a huge pot or something of this nature.

In five card draw poker, since you only have one round to draw cards it makes it difficult to really hit any draws you have. The most important strategy in five card draw is to choose your starting hands wisely and not pay your opponents off with marginal hands. Since you only have one draw in this game you should always make sure you only play your best hands such as pairs, two pairs, trips, open ended straight draws and flush draws when you only need one card. Any other hand is unlikely to end up winning after the draw so you should fold them before losing any money on them.

Bluffing in five card draw isn’t that common especially on the low limits because often opponents chase down to the showdown. One good way to bluff out new players is to raise before the draw in late position and then draw no cards. After you draw no cards you should bet the maximum you can on the table and it should make everyone fold unless they have a wicked hand.

You also need to be able to concentrate when you play this game on PokerStar because you need to see how many cards your opponents draw every hand you play. This will give you an idea as to what your opponent is holding in there hand. If they draw three cards then they most likely have a pair, if they take two cards then they could have a pair and high card or trips. When they draw one card they could have a range of different hands such as straight draws, flush draws, two pairs or trips. When your opponent is only drawing one card and they lead out betting you better make sure you have a good hand in order to make the call.

You really need to be patient and wait for your PokerStar hands in five card draw or else you’re not going to make much money. If you wait for your hands and win some nice sized pots without throwing money away on bad draws and marginal calls you’ll leave with profit every time you play. As a new player to five card draw I would recommend that you play a fixed limit game to start. As you gain experience you can move to pot limit Poker Star and then finally no limit if you wish. No limit five card draw can be a really difficult game for most players because often a lot of players will bully the table with massive bets and you’ll need to be willing to risk all of your money, which most people don’t like to do.
